Review: South Maui’s Redline Rafting

Redline Rafting, my new favorite tour on the island, is one of the only snorkeling tours that leave from Kihei Boat Ramp and takes you to a total of five different spots, way more than most larger group snorkeling tours on Maui.

Redline Rafting Review Reef

The morning began with a cup of coffee, cinnamon rolls, and fresh fruit overlooking the beautiful Molokini Crater, where we arrived early enough to beat the crowds and spread out, relax and explore. Sean and Kiki, our guides for the day, gave us a great history briefing about the crater on the way there, and we even got to snorkel the back side of Molokini, where the steep drop-offs and crystal clear water attract lots of serious scuba divers year after year. Beautiful!

We then traveled South to an area called La Perouse Bay, famous as the most recent lava flow on Maui and now the resting area for many Hawaiian spinner dolphins, who enjoy the shallow bay with their pods during the daytime. Though the chances of seeing them aren’t great, we saw some!  We also saw sea turtles, found nearby at a spot appropriately considered “Turtle Town.” Kiki and Sean did a wonderful job of pointing out turtles and tropical fish and teaching us about the little-known history of the south Maui regions we visited throughout the day.

We were served a deli sandwich lunch and taken to our final stop, where we got to witness a humpback whale come up for air and then dip down back under the surface. Amazing!

I highly recommend Redline Rafting for a more intimate, thrilling, and true Maui experience on the water. The raft is a blast! To see more, visit them online at RedlineRafting.com or call them directly at 808.698.5837.
