We recently adventured on an incredible underwater tour with Atlantis Adventures exploring the deep blue world. The high tech submarine can take up to 48 passengers at a time out of Lahaina Harbor. This fascinating experience is a perfect activity for the whole family!

From the moment you leave the harbor on a small boat, the excitement begins. As the boat comes to a full stop, we waited a few moments until the submarine emerged from underwater, bubbling at the surfing that added excitement to the start of the journey.  My little girl lost her mind when she saw it come up.  She couldn’t believe we were going to descend in it!

Underwater Magic Off the Coast of Maui

Every seat is a window seat and every dive is unique. The submarine goes to about 100 feet deep underwater (ours went to 123 feet), and the captain is extremely experienced (you won’t feel your ears pop under pressure.)

Atlantis Adventures sank the Carthaginian replica of a 19th-century supply vessel with the purpose of creating an artificial reef for all underwater Maui creatures. Sure enough, we saw two reef sharks and several schools of fish that call this sunken ship their home.  There was even an eel living in the front!

The captain will help point out where certain sea creatures are located, and you can have fun trying to identify the specifies with the underwater identity card. The Atlantis Adventure crew is friendly, informative, and humorous and will make sure everyone will have a memorable dive.  Even though we saw sting rays, schools of fish, sharks, and eels, my little girl can’t stop talking about seeing Sponge Bob Square Pants on the sunken ship.  Haha!

How often can you say that you’ve explored underwater in a submarine?

This is a ton of fun, and I feel like it’s a great way for families with small kids and older guests to enjoy the underwater world without having to snorkel or scuba dive.
